Stories from different cultures

In our class we have been looking at stories from different cultures. This is Tawana's work!

How the tortoise got his rough shell
It was a bright summer’s day when tortoise, who had the smoothest shell in the land, was feeling very hungry. Looking up, the tortoise saw a flock of birds flying high in the sky. The tortoise, who was still very hungry, asked where they were going. The flock of birds replied saying “we are flying to where we get our food.”
Thinking about what the birds had said, the tortoise set to work on making himself wings. After a lot of time and effort the tortoise had his very own pair of wings. The next time the tortoise saw the birds flying high in the sky he joined them too. When he reached the end of the rainbow, or also know as food land, the tortoise ate as much as he could.
After hours and hours of non-stop eating the tortoise was finally full. Despite the tortoise being full he tried to fly. All the food that he had eaten had made him so heavy that he now couldn’t fly. So he decided to jump. As he made his jump, he lost his balance and unfortunately fell right on his shell.
When he rolled over realised that his shell had cracked and crumbled into lots of tiny pieces. His shell was now as crumbled as a dry biscuit that had been stepped on. He asked the wise monkeys to help him fix his shell. They did their best but his shell was now uneven. And that’s how the tortoise got his rough shell.
